Roof Cost Calculator
See how roof size and shingle choice change an illustrative replacement budget using published Dallas–Fort Worth pricing.
Try a clear example before planning your own roof
A roofing number is easier to use when you can see what it includes. This calculator starts with 2,000 square feet of roof surface and architectural shingles. You can keep that example or change an area you already know. You don’t need to climb onto the roof or work out measurements to use the guide.

Explore a roof replacement planning budget
Choose roof surface if you know the actual sloped area. Footprint mode is a simplified example based on the ground area covered and the selected pitch.
Keep the 2,000 sq. ft. example, or enter an area you already know. Roof footprint means the area covered, not total living space.
Keep the 6:12 example unless you already know the pitch. Pitch helps check material suitability.
Planning budget example

Includes materials, labor, ordinary tear-off, disposal and permits. Hidden damage, access and roof design can add work.

Pricing and measurement assumptions
DFW installed rates apply to actual roof surface and include materials, labor, ordinary tear-off, disposal and permits.
Known roof surface includes slope. Footprint mode uses one pitch to estimate surface area; overhangs, additions and complex roof shapes need measurement. Multi-story living area is different from footprint.
Decking repairs and difficult access are priced after inspection, without an added percentage here. Class 4 describes impact-test performance; hail can still damage the roof.
What this roof budget includes
The DFW budget includes materials, labor, ordinary tear-off, disposal and permits. The result keeps those inclusions beside the total.
An actual project still needs roof measurements and an inspection. A second story changes access, not simply the number of square feet to enter. Multiple slopes, overhangs, additions and dormers also keep a real roof from behaving like a simple rectangle.
Hidden wood damage and difficult roof access need their own work scope and are assessed separately.
What the example can tell you
The effect of area
More roof surface means more covering and installation work. A roof’s surface is not the same as its total indoor living area.
The effect of material
Compare the three shingle options on the same roof area, then choose a product that suits the roof and your budget.
The next decision
Use the result to frame a replacement conversation. Condition, access and the complete roofing scope determine the project price.
Roof cost calculator FAQs
What if I don’t know my roof area or pitch?
Keep the starting example. It shows how the tool works without asking you to measure the roof. For an actual project, the roofing assessment establishes dimensions and the suitable material.
Should I enter the living area of both floors?
No. A two-story home’s total living area is not its roof footprint. Footprint means the ground area the roof covers; surface area includes its slopes. Keep the example if you do not already have the right measurement.
Does a Class 4 shingle prevent all hail damage?
No. Class 4 describes performance in a specified impact test. It does not make the roof hail-proof or guarantee an insurance discount. Product suitability and insurer requirements need to be considered separately.
Is the result a quote for my Farmers Branch roof?
It is a DFW planning budget. Your roof measurements, material choice, condition and work scope establish the project price.
